Fuerteventura Day 7: Beached at Sotovento

8th April 2008

It felt pretty windy on the drive down, and when we got there it most definitely was - a good 40 knots! I so wish i had a 5m today, even though it would be super-fast!! It was too way too windy to get out on my 7m - so I stayed on the beach and took photos! went go-karting on the way home - such a cool and long track but my brakes didn't work on the first kart they gave me which was pretty scary so change car and was wicked!! It went so fast - I loved it! On the way back, as we drove past the sand dunes in Correlejo, with the strong offshore wind there, the sand blowing across the road from the dunes was incredible!! I got out of the car in the car park by the beach to check it out and couldn't even stand up! and the sand blowing in to me felt like little needles!!! Got some pictures which I'll upload. I almost fell over at one point as I walked back to the car, which on of the photos shows quite well!

Fuerteventura Day 6: Sotovento

7th April 2008

Today it was offshore at Flag Beach so headed down to Sotovento, which this time was cross on. And the lagoon was up so had a really sweet session on the lagoon, and sometimes went out in to the ocean, which had nice waves coming in - flat in between. When youget in flat water you realise how much easier it is kiting and loading up for jumps and tricks. It's good practise to do it not-so-sweet conditions but it is sooooo nice to get in the flat water!! It wasn't very warm today, and I felt quite cold in my shorty so bought a long 3:2 suit in the shop on the way back. Neil Pryde npx 'Sinner'!!? soooo comfortable!!!

Fuerteventura Day 5: Flag Beach

6th April 2008

Had an awesome day at Flag Beach on my 9m, started doing grabs again with front loops which I was doing last year but this year hadn't really been doing them yet, so was pretty pleased I was doing them again. Just gotta get back in to the habit of letting go of the bar and going for a grab during rotations. Really need to do more grabs and keep reminding myself 'what's the worst that can happen?' which is not a lot!!

Fuerteventura Day 4: Sotovento

5th April 2008

Turned up at Flag Beach and it was dead offshore and really gusty so we headed down to Sotovento on the south of the island. Such a beautiful beach down there - white white sand, sparkling blue sea...so nice. Strangely enough it was offshore at Sotovento too which we didn't understand because the beaches faced different directions but maybe it swung a bit as we drove down, which took a good hour and a half. It looks really gusty here too - kites were falling out of the sky and we didn't fancy going out in these conditions. The lagoon was up though and it did look really tempting but we decided to leave it for another day! wind was looking good for the rest of the week so we could afford to be a bit fussy! :-)

Fuerteventura Day 3: Flag Beach

4th April 2008

The forecast for today was quite light and due to die off at midday which is exactly what it did - but managed to get out for a quick session in the morning on my 9m Bandit, which was cool, quite light but no complaints!! just so nice to get out kiting in the sun!! Then we took a drive around the rest of the island to see if we could find any other potential kite spots. The coast line is pretty rugged and not so kiter friendly but there are some really amazing surf spots! I really want to learn to surf - I'll add it to my list of things I want to do!
